Description of the attraction
Initially, the building, built by the adviser of the salt administration P. I. Ivanov in the 1810s according to the project of the architect V. I. Suranov, was used as a dwelling. In 1823, after Ivanov's death, the house was transferred to the treasury chamber of the Department of Salt and Mining Affairs. In 1837, the heir-Tsarevich Alexander Nikolaevich, who arrived in Saratov, stayed in the mansion with his retinue, which included the poet V. I. Zhukovsky, a close friend of A. S. Pushkin. During his stay in Saratov, Zhukovsky made several pencil sketches of the city that have come down to us, including Ivanov's house.
In 1884 the house was rebuilt according to the project of M. N. Grudistov for the needs of the Saratov branch of the State Bank of the Russian Empire. In 1908, in the presence of the Governor S. S. Tatishchev, a solemn ceremony of consecration of the operating room took place. The one-story building overlooking Konstantinovskaya (now Sovetskaya Street) was built on the second floor in 1928 according to the project of the architect N. K. Usov. In this form, the building has survived to our time.
Recently, the building has undergone a thorough and high-quality renovation both outside and inside. Like many years ago, the building houses the Main Directorate of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation for the Saratov Region. The bank building is one of the oldest mansions in Saratov and is a historical and architectural monument of regional significance.
