Description of the attraction
The Bank of China office is located in one of the famous skyscrapers in the center of Hong Kong, on Garden Road. The tower serves as the headquarters of the Bank of China.
From 1989 to 1992, it was the tallest building in Hong Kong and Asia, and the first structure outside the United States, at over 305 m. Today, the tower is the fourth tallest skyscraper in Hong Kong, after the International Commerce Center, International Financial Center and Central Plaza. … The structure, together with two masts, reaches 367.4 m in height.
The 72-storey complex is located in close proximity to the central metro station. The house has two observation decks, one is located on the 43rd floor and is open to all comers, the second is on the 70th floor, you can only get to it by appointment.
Architectural Expressionism is the main style of this building, making it look like the growing bamboo shoots, which are symbols of well-being and life in China. The entire structure rests on four steel columns at the corners of the building, surrounded by triangular frames. The outer walls are clad with durable glass, they are not load-bearing elements.
Although the tower's appearance makes it one of Hong Kong's most recognizable landmarks, it was at one time a source of heated debate. The building has been harshly criticized by some feng shui experts for its sharp edges and negative symbolism of intersecting "X" lines in the structure. Also, the profile of the building from some angles resembles a cleaver, which earned him the nickname "Yi Ba Dao" in Chinese literally means "one knife".
The Bank of China Tower has served as the backdrop for several epic science fiction films, including the Star Trek series and one of the Transformers series.
