Description of the attraction
The Bonsai Museum is located in the fair town of Seeboden, Carinthia. It is the largest European museum dedicated to this Japanese art. It is worth noting that it is located quite far from the city center - about two kilometers, much closer to the museum is the medieval fortress Sommeregg.
The Bonsai Museum was founded in 1976, while many of the exhibits presented here are much older, some are more than a hundred years old. The museum itself covers an area of 15,000 square meters, two-thirds of which is a classic Japanese garden, made according to ancient Buddhist traditions. Here are not only dwarf trees, but also ordinary and popular Japanese rock gardens.
As for the "miniature" trees themselves, there are more than three thousand of them in the museum. At the same time, about 120 varieties of various trees and shrubs can be distinguished, grown in the form of bonsai. No other Japanese garden or even a museum dedicated to Japanese culture can compare with the museum in Seeboden in this aspect, moreover, here they take very seriously the ancient traditions that laid the foundation for this art.
The bonsai museum is especially beautiful in autumn, when the leaves take on a golden and crimson hue, and, of course, in spring, when azaleas, acacia and, of course, sakura blossom. And in May-June, the famous festivals of Japanese culture are usually held in the museum. However, it should be noted that the Bonsai Museum in Seeboden is open only during the warm season - from November to March it is closed, as well as on Sundays and holidays. The duration of a standard tour of the museum is about an hour. By the way, both the museum and the Japanese kindergarten can be visited with dogs.
