Description of the attraction

The city park named after A. Golovko is one of the sights of Baltiysk. The park, named after Admiral Arseniy Golovko, occupies the western half of the city. The park has a rather interesting history. In 1657, the commandant Pillau ordered to cut down a forest on the peninsula in order to protect the fortress from enemies. Well, since this territory was still part of a sand spit, very soon a desert formed near the fortress, the sand from which began to clog embrasures and ditch. In 1793-1813. the wasteland still managed to be planted with a forest, which eventually turned into a real city park.

Previously, this place was very popular among the local population and tourists, there were cafes and various attractions here. The park was badly damaged during the war, during the assault on Pillau (today Baltiysk). Thanks to military builders, the park was rebuilt. Here again they began to hold city holidays, show films, sell ice cream, and Soviet stars constantly gave concerts in the Summer Theater.

Admiral A. Golovko went down in history as a hero of the Great Patriotic War, an order bearer, a legendary man. In 1952 he was appointed commander of the Baltic Fleet. It was 1952, associated with the appearance of a new admiral in the city, that was the year of birth of the park, laid out on the site of the German Plantage park, which was previously located here.

In the 90s. XX Art. the park was handed over to the city authorities, after which it fell into disrepair. All sculptures were simply destroyed, and the summer theater burned down. Only the carved sculptures of bears and the park gate have survived to this day. The authorities of the city of Baltiysk are taking all the necessary measures to restore this monument of landscape architecture.

At present, the City Park has begun to hold holidays again, tourists, lovers and children are walking.
