Description of the attraction
City Park named after Stanislav Staszic is a city park located in the Polish city of Kielce, in the city center, at the foot of the Castle Hill. The park is one of the oldest in Poland, occupying an area of 7 hectares. In the western part of the park, there is a pond with a fountain, which has long become a meeting place for citizens and guests of the city.
The first mention of the park dates back to 1804, when the park was described as an ornamental Italian garden. In 1818, the main alley and gazebos appeared in the park. In 1830, the Administrative Council of the Kingdom of Poland decided on the need to create a full-fledged recreation site for urban residents. After this decision, the organization and decoration of the park began, a fence appeared around its territory. The architects took part in the development of the project: Wilhelm Gersh, Charles Meiser, Alexander Dudin-Borkovsky. In 1835, two Baroque sculptures from a Cistercian monastery appeared in the park. One of the sculptures - the statue of St. John of Nepomuk is still located by the pond. In 1872, lanterns were installed on the main park alley.
In September 1906, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the death of the Polish scientist and philanthropist Stanislav Staszic, his monument was erected in the park, and in 1922 it was decided to rename the entire park in his honor.
In 2001, the improvement of the park continued: information signs were placed near the trees, telling about a particular type of tree. After 3 years, the territory was inhabited with pheasants, partridges, peacocks and quails, thereby creating the feeling of a paradise garden.
