Description of the attraction

In the village of Chernorechye, which until 1945 was called Lower Chorgun, there is a little explored and rather curious architectural monument - the Chorgun tower. In former times, the palace of a Turkish noble nobleman stood nearby. This palace complex included a large wooden house, which was surrounded by a gallery. The Chorgun tower was adjacent to the gallery and most likely did not have an entrance from the outside.

The palace was granted to the traveler, geographer and naturalist K. I. Gablitz in 1786. According to some reports, the village of Nizhny Chorgun during the period of residence of those K. I. Gablitsa was called Karlovka - in honor of the owner of the estate.

Researchers have not come to a common opinion about the time of the construction of the Chorgun tower. Therefore, its construction is attributed to the XIV - XVIII centuries. The tower has a rather original shape: on the outside it is twelve-sided, and on the inside it is round. According to various sources, the thickness of the walls of the tower is one and a half to two meters. The masonry (without the lost parapet) is about twelve meters. During the construction of the tower, a material such as rubble stone on a limestone solution was used. The tower corners are tied with Inkerman smooth-hewn stone. The tower had several tiers connected by wooden staircases. Water reserves were stored on the lower tier, the rest were used for housing. At the top of the tower, on a flat roof, the guns could well be located. Pointed narrow windows could be used for rifle shooting.

Despite the fact that the tower was not of strategic importance, it nevertheless played a certain role in the Crimean War: it was from this tower that the British, who were trying to take water in the Black River, were fired by Russian soldiers in 1854. Later, a pair of guns were installed on the roof of the tower, which annoyed the enemy with their fire.

One heroic episode of the defense of Sevastopol during the Great Patriotic War is also associated with the Chorgun Tower. On one of the winter nights in 1942, a platoon of marines-reconnaissance under the command of Petty Officer I. P. Dmitrishina. The Nazis were actively shelling the tower from machine guns, mortars and tank guns. At dawn, the scouts were assisted by the Soviet army, and under cover of heavy mortar attacks, they got out of the tower and returned to their own.
