Description of the attraction

On the museum square, facing the Holy Trinity Cathedral, there is a five-storey house in an eclectic style, built in October 1909. Figured brickwork, large corner turrets, balconies and composite projections raise the work of the architect A. M. Salko to the level of masters of architecture. Classical forms, consistent color and a representative facade of the house organically fit into the architectural ensemble of neighboring buildings on one of the main squares of Saratov.

The history of the building's construction begins in the second half of the nineteenth century, after the construction of a section of the railway from Atkarsk to Saratov and the subsequent formation of the "Society of the Ryazan-Ural Railway (RUZD)". Nowadays, the sections of RUZD are part of the Volga Railway.

The RUZhD administration, having moved to Saratov, at first occupied a temporary premises (Vakurov House) and more than once asked the Provincial Administration to provide them with their own, more suitable building. When the board of the railway decided to transfer to Moscow, the merchants and petty bourgeoisie of Saratov, fearing to lose hundreds of tenants of apartments and ordinary buyers, ordered a project of a new building for the Russian Railways. On August 12, 1907, the construction of a house on the site of the old Gostiny Dvor began, and in 1911 the project for the extension of the Ryazan-Uralskaya railway was approved.

In 2009, the Volga Railway Administration celebrated its centenary. The building of the Privolzhskaya Railroad Administration, thanks to its engineering and technical merits, regularly serves today for its intended purpose.
