According to statistics, almost every fifth inhabitant of the Netherlands is an immigrant, and in a small territory of the kingdom both indigenous peoples - the Dutch and the Frisians, as well as the Germans, Indonesians, Turks, Indians, Moroccans and, of course, Russians - coexist peacefully. Holland is attractive for migrants with its high standard of living, many social guarantees, stable economy and huge cultural potential. That is why the question of how to move to the Netherlands is quite often asked to specialists from recruitment and legal agencies dealing with migration issues.
A little about the country
According to the state of the economy, the kingdom is confidently included in the top twenty countries in the world, has an excellent infrastructure and guarantees its citizens stable social benefits. The aging population is considered a serious problem for the Dutch economy, and therefore the government welcomes the influx of young and ambitious foreigners into the country. At the same time, the special interest in the kingdom among potential immigrants has served as a reason for the tightening of migration laws in recent years. Since 2013, it has become much more difficult to obtain a residence permit, and a special police department now monitors compliance with the legal terms of stay in the country by citizens of other states. Applicants for resident status will now have to open a bank account and take a test. Based on its results, the authorities manage to understand how a foreigner is able to integrate into Dutch society.
Where to begin?
Any immigration process in the Netherlands starts with obtaining a visa. A member of the Schengen Agreement, the country issues several types of visas, among which are study and work, tourist and guest, business and transit.
A temporary residence permit in Holland is granted for a period of one year. It is important to roll it over in time so that the document is not canceled. To obtain permanent resident status, an immigrant must have lived in the country for at least five years and be of age at the time of submission of documents. After this period, he will have to confirm the spoken level of proficiency in the state language, the absence of a criminal record and sufficient financial solvency.
Legal ways to move to the Netherlands for permanent residence
The Kingdom of the Netherlands, like all European countries, provides potential migrants with ample opportunities to obtain the coveted residence permit. To permanently reside in the country legally, you only need:
- Become a husband or wife of a Dutch citizen.
- Find a suitable job and conclude an employment contract. Highly qualified specialists are in demand in the country.
- Open your own business. The Kingdom differs from many countries of the Old World by its loyal business programs towards foreigners.
- Study at any Dutch university.
- Get political asylum or become a refugee because of sexual, religious or ethnic persecution.
Despite the breadth of its own views and a special tolerance for non-standard thinking and lifestyle of some of its citizens, the kingdom strictly monitors compliance with migration laws and strictly suppresses all attempts to violate them.
All works are good
The main flow of migrant workers goes to the Netherlands from the countries of the former CIS and Russia. Despite the fact that the Old World has a pre-emptive right to hire EU citizens, the Germans and French are in no hurry to move to Holland and work there. But a country that is dynamically developing its economy, on the contrary, needs an influx of skilled labor. That is why thousands of foreigners manage to move to the Netherlands on a work visa every year.
A potential employer is usually found on specialized resources on the Internet. The task of the applicant is to conclude a preliminary contract with the future employer, on the basis of which the consulate of the country issues work visas. The applicant must have a valid passport, the results of a medical examination, including a fluorogram, and speak Dutch.
After obtaining a visa, you will have to issue a work permit. Usually these costs are borne by the employer. The document obliges the foreigner to work for the person who corrected the permit.
The most popular areas for employment in the kingdom are agriculture and medicine, tourism and IT-technologies, construction business and work in families. Those who want to take care of plants in greenhouses are in demand as seasonal workers.
Recommendations, experience, diploma and knowledge of the language are of great importance when applying for a qualified and well-paid job in the country of tulips.
You will be declared husband and wife
The Kingdom of the Netherlands is, in a sense, a unique country. Resident status here can be obtained both by concluding a legal marriage with a citizen, and simply by having a relationship with him and a close relationship over the past three years. The only condition is that for this period the potential immigrant and his partner or partner must have lived in the Netherlands. In this case, a common-law spouse or wife can be of any gender, including one with the applicant for a residence permit.
After parting with a common-law spouse, the immigrant loses the right to permanent residence in the country of tulips and receives an order to leave its borders.
If the marriage is officially registered, the law is more loyal to the married couple, and in order to obtain a residence permit, they do not have to constantly stay in the country for three years. However, it is best for a married couple to have proof of the truth of conjugal intentions at hand. By tightening control over migrants, the country's authorities gained the right to monitor the lives of foreigners in order to exclude fictitious attempts to create a family with a citizen or citizen of the Netherlands.
Think for yourself, decide for yourself
Dual citizenship in the Netherlands is prohibited, and therefore, in order to receive the coveted passport, you must renounce Russian citizenship.
Children under the age of 18 will automatically become citizens when their parents receive Dutch passports. If the child is at least 12 years old at that time, he can refuse the naturalization procedure and retain his previous citizenship.
