For one of the countries of Southeast Asia, the twentieth century can be called a truly golden age. The tourist boom that hit Thailand radically changed this country, and the economy, agriculture and tourism began to develop actively. Therefore, today there is no question of what to visit in Koh Samui, Phuket or Bangkok, each of the islands, resorts or large cities has thousands of historical and cultural monuments, nature reserves or museums.
The list of the most popular tourist spots on Koh Samui (according to reviews) includes the oceanarium, the Tiger Zoo, Buddhist temples and pagodas, travel to neighboring islands, to a crocodile or snake farm, to the Butterfly Park.
What to visit on Koh Samui from natural monuments
Samui - relatively recently, foreign tourists began to actively explore, who are attracted here by gentle beaches, coral atolls, crystal clear sea, picturesque landscapes everywhere. Nature is the main attraction of the island, which does not require an interpreter or guide; you can admire it yourself and endlessly.
In the southern area of Lamai Beach, there are two natural objects that are "under the gun" of tourists - the Hin-Ta and Hin-Yai rocks. Their name is translated very simply and funny - Grandfather and Grandmother, the Thais do not tell any legend that beautifully explains such a name, they just offer to take a closer look at the shapes of the rocks.
Another attractive corner of nature on Koh Samui is the Namtok waterfall, its peculiarity is that it has two levels, and it looks very beautiful. In the immediate vicinity of the waterfall, you can find a wonderful pool created by Mother Nature. This natural site also serves as the starting point for tourist routes, one of which invites you to visit the largest land mammals - elephants.
On a date with the sea
In principle, every guest of Samui meets the sea every day and even several times, but there are also special meetings, for example, a trip to the Marine Park with a difficult name for a Russian-speaking tourist - "Mu-Ko-Ang Thong". Guests are greeted by an archipelago, consisting of a large number of islets covered with huge rocks and dense jungle, as if growing from the depths of the ocean.
This is not a place that you can visit on Koh Samui on your own, you cannot do without helpers who are well-versed in the area. A professional guide will show you the most romantic and beautiful islets, secluded beaches. You can ride around in more or less comfortable conditions or try to do it on sea kayaks, tourists get a lot of impressions using these means of transportation.
In the animal world
Continuing the journey around Koh Samui, the guest will not be able to miss a visit to the local aquarium and the "Tiger Zoo", especially since they are located on the same territory, which is very convenient for visitors. The aquarium will delight adults and kids with a wide variety of representatives of the underwater world, collected from all over the world. You can see the formidable predators of sharks and amazing stingrays, giant crabs and the same huge turtles. The latter, by the way, can be fed, the feeding attraction costs very little money, but it is a lot of pleasure.
The "Tiger Zoo" is a place that "tickles the nerves" of tourists, since its main inhabitants are such affectionate-looking, but very dangerous "cats" - tigers, leopards, lions. Among the other inhabitants of the animal house, tourists are very fond of primates. In addition to simply observing the life of representatives of the exotic fauna, you can watch a show in which Bengal tigers perform, accompanied by birds - eagles and parrots, as well as otters.
Buddhist shrines of Samui
Most of the local residents profess Buddhism, respectively, on Koh Samui there are many temples, places of worship, ritual places. Near this island is the main symbol of Buddhism, which for its gigantic size was named "Big Buddha". The statue reaches a height of twelve meters, it is gilded, Buddha is depicted in the most famous position - the lotus position.
Interestingly, the sculpture can be seen from the air, so guests arriving in Koh Samui begin to familiarize themselves with local attractions in advance. Although in fact this Buddha is not that old, he appeared only in 1972, but the locals believe that his appearance heralds the advent of an era of prosperity (isn't it at the expense of tourists?).
To enhance the impression of meeting the Buddha, it is necessary to overcome 60 steps, since he is located on a hill. On the one hand, it helps to get closer to faith, especially since you need to go up, taking off your shoes first, on the other hand, going upstairs opens up magnificent sea views.
