In multi-ethnic Kazakhstan, in addition to Kazakhs, there are also representatives of more than 120 ethnic groups and national minorities. They use their own dialects and dialects as home languages. In the Constitution of the country, the only state language of Kazakhstan is named - Kazakh, but Russian can be officially used in organizations of republican significance and local governments.

Some statistics and facts

  • Kazakh is one of the largest in the Turkic group.
  • The country broadcasts TV programs and publishes newspapers not only in the state language of Kazakhstan and Russian, but also in 11 other languages. The list includes Ukrainian, German, Korean, Uyghur and Turkish.
  • The same languages are used by the actors of the troupes of several national theaters.
  • There are almost more speakers of the Russian language in the republic than the state language. According to the results of the 2007 census, 84% owned Russian, and 74% owned Kazakh. However, it should be borne in mind that many local Kazakhs speak both equally well.
  • Russian began to become widespread in Kazakhstan at the beginning of the twentieth century after the resettlement and deportation of some ethnic groups.

Russian retains its high positions in the social and economic life of the country and is the language of business and cultural ties.

To the world level

Kazakhstan is striving hard to enter the world arena in all possible areas of the economy, and tourism in this list is among the priority areas. Such tasks became the impetus for the adoption of the cultural project "The Trinity of Languages", the supervision of which is carried out at the state level.

The goal of the project is to preserve not only the state language of Kazakhstan, but also Russian, as well as a large-scale study of English, Russian and Kazakh by young people, regardless of the nationality of the person.

Tourist notes

Once in Kazakhstan, do not be afraid to be misunderstood. A huge percentage of the country's inhabitants speaks Russian. The names of streets, names of transport stops and advertising tourist information are duplicated in Russian in cities.

Russian-speaking staff work in hotels, shops and restaurants, and therefore tourists from Russia usually do not have problems with communication. In the provinces, the native speakers of Russian are middle-aged people who found themselves in the times of the USSR and studied our language at school without fail.
