Since 1596, this Polish city has been carrying the mission of the capital of the state. There are enough historical and cultural monuments in the city, and yet walking around Warsaw leaves the impression that there should be much more attractions here than there are today. This is indeed the case. The city was badly damaged during the last war, when it was almost completely destroyed and burned. Everything that can be seen in modern Warsaw has been restored from ruins by the skillful hands of the townspeople.
Walks in the districts of Warsaw
Like many world capitals, Poland's main city is located on the Vistula River. It divides Warsaw into two districts, located on its different banks, respectively, the left bank is occupied by the Old Town, the right - modern buildings. It is better to take walks on the left bank of the Vistula, where the sights have been preserved, and it is better to live on the right bank, where housing is cheaper and more comfortable.
Basically, tourists "hang out" in the city center, where there is an amazing cocktail of old and modern buildings, many shopping and entertainment complexes, restaurants of national cuisine.
In the southern part of Warsaw, you can see the preserved Wilanow Palace and the beautiful park that has been preserved since time immemorial. Among the historical sights in the center of Warsaw, the following architectural complexes are worthy of attention of the sophisticated tourist: Royal Castle, whose restoration was completed only in the 1980s; Alexander citadel; Ostrozhsky Palace; Lazienki Palace.
Warsaw museums deserve special attention. Walking around the city, tourists should definitely include them in the route. Museums are located in castle complexes (for example, in the Royal Castle), and in separate, purpose-built buildings.
Warsaw for pilgrims
It is known that Poland is considered a stronghold of the Catholic faith, therefore there are many Catholic churches in the capital of the state. They are of interest not only to Catholic believers, but also to tourists, representatives of other confessions. The external architecture of religious buildings and their rich interior design are interesting.
The visit of the guests, first of all, awaits the Cathedral, consecrated in honor of St. John, which is considered the oldest temple in the capital. It hosted the coronation ceremonies of Polish kings, the most famous people of Poland prayed.
