The name of this Moroccan city is well known to all movie lovers; in 1942, an American director shot a romantic film that later became a cult movie. Therefore, today fans of cinema and love romance go for walks in Casablanca, trying to find landscapes and places familiar from the film.

Walks in ancient Casablanca

The name of the city is translated very simply - "white house", but in this simplicity there is both authenticity and beauty. Walking along the streets of the historical center, a tourist involuntarily notices how much white surrounds him; in fact, the streets consist of snow-white stone houses, narrow crooked streets. The lack of transport is striking, there is nothing but peaceful donkeys, with tourists there is a so-called immersion in history, in previous eras, when no one thought about technological progress.

It is this ancient atmosphere that becomes the main attraction of the city, if you travel around it on your own, without a guide. If the company of a traveler or a group of tourists is a guide, then Casablanca reveals many of its secrets. For example, there is an opportunity to go for a walk through the majestic and pretentious building, which received a self-explanatory name - Mahakma do Pasha, in translation it sounds like the residence of the Pasha of Casablanca.

The palace complex was built in the Spanish-Moorish style, it is noticeable at first glance. It has about sixty large and small rooms, cozy courtyards, many of the rooms are decorated with skillful carvings typical of this style.

Hassan II Mosque

Another trip to Casablanca may involve Islamic culture and local mosques, which are works of art by ancient and modern architects. The heart of the city is the Hassan II Mosque, which is the second largest mosque (in the world). It was built not so long ago, and therefore Michel Pinceau, a French architect, managed to make the dome sliding. Now the place for prayers with a “light movement of the hand” can turn into an open terrace.

On the one hand, the Hassan II Mosque is the main religious building of the Muslims of Casablanca, on the other hand, other institutions are located here:

  • a library with a large collection of ancient sacred texts;
  • madrasah, school of the "young theologian";
  • National Museum with important artifacts.

In addition, the mosque hosts a variety of cultural events.
