Over the course of their long history, many Russian cities have changed their name and main official symbols more than once. For example, the coat of arms of Krasnodar, since its approval in 1849, has undergone several changes regarding certain elements located on the shield and in the frame.
And during the years of Soviet power, a completely different official symbol of Krasnodar was approved, which did not in any way remind of the recent past of the city that was part of the Russian Empire.
Description of the heraldic symbol of Krasnodar
Anyone can appreciate the richness of the palette, the complexity of the composition, the depth of the symbols depicted on the coat of arms of the city from a color photo or illustration. It is based on a French shield, divided into four fields, each with its own symbolic elements (repeated diagonally).
In the center there is another shield with an image, the edge of the shield is decorated. In addition, the composition of the emblem of Krasnodar includes the following elements:
- a tower crown made of gold and complemented by a gold laurel wreath;
- supporters in the images of the Black Sea Cossacks, dressed in military uniforms of different years;
- grass covering, which serves as the basis for the coat of arms and shield holders.
You can look at the coat of arms of Krasnodar for an infinitely long time, especially since many mysteries and messages are encrypted in it. For example, the fields of the shield are colored silver and gold. On the fields of silver color are depicted two banners, each has a monogram in honor of the Russian emperor, but not one and the same, but different ones that have left their mark on the history of the city.
The small shield is also a kind of banner with a monogram, in which the name of the great empress Catherine II is immediately read, her name was borne by the city (Ekaterinodar - until 1920).
Symbols of elements of the coat of arms
Each of the symbols that were present on the first coat of arms and survived in the modern version has its own meaning. Flags with monograms remind of the history of the founding and development of the city, first of all, a tribute was paid to Catherine II, who granted the Diploma for the Cossacks' right to live on this land.
That is why some of the symbols from the city's coat of arms are directly related to the Cossacks, whose representatives are depicted as supporters. Moreover, they were dressed in uniforms of different times, which symbolizes the continuity between generations of the Cossacks. The second symbol associated with them is a green border along the edge of the shield with 59 gold stars - this is the number of Cossack villages that belonged to the Black Sea army.
