The metro of the Chinese city of Wuhan is a light rail system for urban transport. The Wuhan Metro is under construction and is under active development. Today, only three lines are fully functioning, the total length of which is almost eighty kilometers. There are 64 stations in the Wuhan subway for the needs of passengers. The passenger traffic has recently grown to 200 thousand people a day, but this does not solve all the problems of the densely populated city.
Wuhan has three main areas along the river. City bridges are overloaded, and highways are unable to cope with the traffic flow, which is increasing every year. That is why the first stage of the metro, which opened in 2004, helped the city to partially relieve the highways. Each subway line has its own color of marking on the maps. The "blue" line of the Wuhan metro begins in the northwest, follows to the city center and rises to the northeast on the diagram. It is alphanumeric marked U1 and has a route length of almost 29 kilometers. Its 27 stations are located in the urban area of Hankou, the "blue" line does not cross the river.
Another popular Wuhan subway line among residents and visitors of the city is "pink" or U2. It begins on the northern outskirts and, passing through the business districts of the center, descends to the south and southeast. Its trains run mostly underground and cross the Yangtze River through an underground tunnel. The large flow of passengers on the pink line is the reason why trains of eight cars are used on this route.
The branch marked in green is called U4 and is under active construction. So far, only 15 stations have been put into operation, at two of which you can switch to the "pink" route. All trains in the Wuhan subway are air conditioned. On the diagrams, the names of stations are duplicated in English.
