Description of the attraction

Cathedral of St. Olaf, sometimes called "the cathedral of Nidaros", was built for more than one century - from 1140 to the beginning of the XIV century. Despite repeated fires and rebuildings, this is one of the most beautiful medieval cathedrals in Europe. In the cathedral are buried Norse kings, including St. Olaf, to worship whose relics pilgrims rushed from all over Europe.

The facade of the cathedral is adorned with magnificent Gothic reliefs and statues of kings and saints. The interior is a labyrinth of gigantic columns with graceful arches that separate the altar from the nave. The true decoration of the cathedral is the altar of the XIV century and the baptismal font by G. Vigelan (early XX century). The museum of the cathedral houses the coronation decides of Norwegian monarchs.

There is an observation deck on the tower of the cathedral, from where a magnificent view of the city and its surroundings opens.
