Description of the attraction

The Church of Seraphim of Sarov in Khabarovsk is located near the Pacific State University, in a forested area. Elements of medieval Pskov-Novgorod architecture are clearly visible in the architecture of the temple.

The idea of building a church in the name of one of the most famous Russian saints - the Monk Seraphim of Sarov - arose quite a long time ago. In 1993, Vladyka Innokenty brought to the city an icon of the great saint of God Seraphim of Sarov with a particle of the holy relics of the monk. In the first half of the 1990s. before several believers in the forest in the north of Khabarovsk, the image of the Monk Seraphim appeared. The Khabarovsk Bishop Innokenty found out about this, and he decided to install a worship cross on the site of the miraculous phenomenon. Believers named this place "Seraphim Hill".

After a while, the construction of the church began. Initially, the Seraphim Chapel was erected in the Pskov style. Later, a rector's house was built near it, in which divine services were held for some time. The church itself was also designed in the traditions of the Russian northern style of architecture. The author of this project was the famous local architect A. Mameshin. Since the church stands on a hill, where the relief is difficult, they decided to make it three-story.

The laying of the first stone in the foundation of the temple took place in August 2003, and the solemn consecration - in May 2008, just on the eve of the 150th anniversary of the founding of the city of Khabarovsk.

The total height of the Church of Seraphim of Sarov is 57 m. It consists of three internal churches: the first is in honor of Seraphim of Sarov, the second is in the name of the Great Martyr Tatiana, and the third, lower chapel, has no name yet. The belfry of the church has ten bells cast in the city of Borisoglebsk. The temple is decorated with a carved walnut iconostasis and icons painted on gold by the best Moscow craftsmen, as well as a gilded chandelier, which is an exact copy of an ancient silver chandelier from the Valaam Monastery.
