Literary Memorial Museum of I. A. Kuratova, which is one of the departments of the National Museum of the Komi Republic, is located in Syktyvkar, at the intersection of Ordzhonikidze and Kirov streets.
Back in the 1930s, the question of the formation of the museum of I. A. Kuratov. And in July 1969, on the first floor of a three-story stone house located on Ordzhonikidze Street, 10 (here was the wooden house of the daughter of the priest E. I. the poet, founded by Tamara Alekseevna Chistaleva, is an enthusiast and devoted admirer of Kuratov's work. And in 2009 the museum moved to a newly restored building (a monument of history and culture) on the same street - to the former house of merchant Stepan Grigorievich Sukhanov. This building was first mentioned in 1801. In 1850, Sukhanov handed over his house to the city school, in the period from 1924 to 1998 there was a museum of local lore.
The new exposition of the museum acquaints visitors with the history of the development of writing, language and literature in the region in the XIV-XX centuries. The main sections of the exposition are: “The emergence of writing among the Komi-Zyryans”, “Komi in the family of Finno-Ugric peoples”, “The life and work of I. A. Kuratov. History of the discovery and study of poetic heritage”and others. The exposition tells about the images of Komi mythology and folklore, through the Finno-Ugric language tree, it makes it possible to present the diversity of kindred peoples.
Book and icon-painting monuments, the works of the first researchers of language and writing G. S. Lytkina, P. I. Savvaitov, they talk about the origin of the ancient Permian writing, which was associated with the creation in the 14th century of the alphabet of Stephen of Perm, and the custom of rewriting Christian liturgical books and translating them into the Komi language in the 15th-19th centuries.
In the museum you can see a collection of handwritten books of the 15th-19th centuries, Old Believer family libraries of the 18th-20th centuries, handwritten books of peasants with translations of liturgical texts and works by Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin, Nikolai Vasilyevich Gogol, Mark Twain into the Komi language.
The central space of the museum exposition is occupied by a hall dedicated to the life and fate of the founder of Komi literature Ivan Alekseevich Kuratov and the history of the discovery of his poetic heritage. Here are miraculously preserved original books from the poet's library and a lifetime photograph of Kuratov. On the basis of two collections of furniture originating from residential buildings of representatives of the clergy, the atmosphere of the living room of the second half of the 19th century has been recreated.
The period 1900-1930s is presented at the exhibition with unique documents and objects of the era. Among them is the manuscript of the poem by K. F. Zhakov's "Biarmia", books with donative inscriptions by K. F. Zhakov, articles by P. A. Sorokin in the journal "News of the Arkhangelsk Society for the Study of the Russian North", letters to V. A. Savin and V. T. Chistalev, photo from the scientific archive and violin A. S. Sidorova, secretary F. I. Zaboeva - Zhakov's teachers, unique translated editions of the 1920s-1930s in the Komi language, a banner with the patrimonial marks of the 1920s.
Diary entries, letters from the front, documents, photographs of the war years, awards, personal belongings of prose writers and poets narrate about creativity and hard life during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945: V. I. Elkina, A. P. Razmyslova, I. V. Izyurov, G. A. Fedorova, I. I. Pystina, S. A. Popova, I. M. Babilina; photographs, manuscripts, books of writers who were in the rear - prose writers Ya. M. Rochev and V. V. Yukhnin and playwrights S. I. Ermolina and N. M. Dyakonov.
The exposition hall, which tells about the modern literature of the Komi Republic, is made in the format of a book cafe. Here, over a cup of coffee, you can retire with a book, plunging into the world of images created by the famous writers G. A. Yushkov, I. G. Toropov, V. V. Kushmanov, A. E. Vaneev, V. V. Timin, N. A. Miroshnichenko, N. N. Kuratova, to attend musical and poetry evenings, literary meetings of contemporary writers.
Next to the book cafe there is a scientific library of the museum with a unique collection of periodicals, rare books, encyclopedias of the XIX-XX centuries, open to researchers, ethnographers, students.
