Description of the attraction

The literary-memorial museum of M. Kotsyubinsky is located in the city of Vinnitsa, in a small old house at 15, Ivan Bevza Street. The museum was solemnly opened on November 8, 1927.

The classic of Ukrainian literature M. Kotsyubinsky was born in this house on September 17, 1864. The estate of the great writer in the 50s was built by M. Kotsyubinsky's grandfather, M. Abaza. The writer lived in his home for 33 years. In 1924, the house of M. Kotsyubinsky was awarded the title of "monument of antiquity", after which it was taken under state protection, and in 1926, at the initiative of the writer's brother, restoration work was carried out at the house and a museum was created.

In December 1989, a monument to M. Kotsyubinsky was unveiled near the museum, the authors of which were the artist M. Vronsky and the architect V. Gnezdilov.

In our time, on the territory of the Kotsyubinsky estate, there is a house that is more than 170 years old, a small memorial gatehouse, a barn and a garden that M. Abaza planted. After restoration, everything in the museum building was recreated as it was during the life of the owner.

The exposition of the Literary Memorial Museum of M. Kotsyubinsky demonstrates all the episodes of the creative and life path of the great writer, his social activities. There are lifetime editions of the outstanding Podolyan, books with signatures of famous Ukrainian writers, translations, paintings, as well as documents, photos and household items. The museum fund contains nearly 9,000 items.

Particularly valuable in the museum collection are: the original register of the Vinnytsia Cathedral of the Transfiguration with the record of the birth of M. Kotsyubinsky, the protocol of the decision of the pedagogical council of the Vinnytsia school on conferring the title of people's teacher on the writer.

The exposition of the memorial museum is built in a monographic principle and is located in five rooms of the house.
