Description of the attraction
The Art Museum in the city of Tobolsk is one of the cultural institutions of the city. Initially, it was the Tobolsk Museum, founded in 1870, which later became the provincial one. The opening of the art museum took place in 2002 in the former building of the Tobolsk Museum of Local Lore.
Starting from the first decades of its existence, the collection of the then Provincial Museum was constantly replenished with works of decorative and applied arts and fine arts. In 1896, the museum's collection included paintings from the collections of the Stieglitz School, the Stroganov School and the Academy of Arts.
One of the main assets of the art museum is the collection of popular prints, which was collected at the end of the 19th century. in the villages of the Tobolsk province, as well as the works of Tobolsk artists - M. Znamensky, P. Chukomin, D. Shelutkov and others. In addition, the museum's collection includes works by the famous Khanty artist G. Raishev and many other outstanding contemporary original authors.
Currently, within the walls of the Tobolsk Art Museum, new expositions from the funds of the Tobolsk State Historical and Architectural Museum are constantly opening. Among the new expositions, special attention should be paid to exhibitions with works by artists of the Tyumen region, as well as works of fine art on the mythological themes of the Turkic peoples and much more.
The Art Museum annually hosts the Siberian Symposium, various conferences and scientific seminars devoted to museology, history, the study of ethnic cultures of the peoples of the North and architecture.
