Description of the attraction
The picturesque Seaside Park in Gagra is a real symbol of the resort. The park is located on the very coast between the Gagrapsh and Zhoekvara gorges and stretches along the sea for 6 km, the total area of the park is 14 hectares.
The Seaside Park was founded in 1902. The architect Shervinsky Sr. and the master of landscape park-building, the agronomist-decorator K. Brener, were involved in its creation. The park was created as a unique arboretum; for this, plants were brought here from different parts of the earth.
Visiting the Seaside Park, you can plunge into the wonderful world of magical tropical nature, where the salty smell of the sea interrupts the delicate and light aroma of exotic flowers. Many unusual plants grow around the paths throughout the park. In total, there are more than 400 species of different plants, most of which are evergreen. Of the many local ornamental vegetation brought here from other countries of the world, special attention deserves: date palms, common in the Canary Islands, American magnolias, mallows from Syria, coconut palms brought from South America, etc. In the Seaside Park you can find such rare varieties plants like hamerops, candy tree, Himalayan cedars, agave and oleander.
All the splendor of the Seaside Park is complemented by the original system of park reservoirs. Large ponds harmoniously alternate with small ponds and are connected by small streams. Important peacocks stroll along their banks, and graceful swans ply the water surface.
Another attraction of the Primorsky Park is a unique architectural monument - a temple, erected in the VI century. Currently, this temple houses a museum of ancient weapons of Abkhazia.
Over the past two decades, the Seaside Park has been in an abandoned state, but today active work is underway to improve it.
