The airport in Tambov Donskoy is located 10 kilometers from the city in the vicinity of the village of the same name Donskoy. History
The dawn of the Tambov aviation enterprise came in the 80s of the last century, when aircrafts were sent daily from Donskoy to Moscow, Leningrad, Sochi, Volgograd, Kuibyshev and other cities of the Soviet Union, more than 10 thousand flights were carried out in just a year.
But the economic situation in Russia in the 90s influenced the operation of the airport. The passenger and cargo turnover of the enterprise sharply decreased, many flights were canceled, the airport staff was subject to a significant reduction.
Since 1997, the airline has been in bankruptcy. After the reorganization in 2008, the airport resumed flights to Moscow, which for a long time were operated by AkBars Aero on a Yak-40 aircraft. But even these flights have been canceled since January 2012.
In April 2012, UTair Aviation resumed flights from the Tambov airport. Today the air carrier operates two flights a day to Moscow and a flight to Sochi once a week, on Saturdays.
