Description of the attraction
The botanical garden is located in the very center of the city of Alma-Ata and occupies a huge area of 103 hectares, which won the title of the largest park in the city.
The history of the garden began in 1932 when the Presidium of the USSR Academy of Sciences signed a decree on the creation of a Kazakhstani base as part of the botanical sector. From that moment on, a vigorous work and scientific activity began in the selected territory. Botanists and plant breeders study the problems of plant acclimatization, identify economically valuable species, which in the future helps to green up not only the city, but the whole country. In the collection of the garden there are over seven thousand species of forms of vegetation - not only the flora of Kazakhstan, but also of the near and far abroad is presented here.
Walking through the park, you can visit birch, pine, oak, mountain ash and variegated groves. The huge greenhouses contain various types of exotic plants, but their visit requires special permission. Admiring local squirrels is one of the exciting activities for children while relaxing in the botanical garden.
Despite the huge space that the garden takes up, you will not find any plastic bottles, paperwork or other rubbish there. Although the park area does not shine with novelties in landscape design and unusual forms and methods of growing plants, it is a peaceful place with clean air and natural beauty of various vegetation.
