Description of the attraction
Ahlerse Andino National Park was formed in 1982. It is located 40 km south of Puerto Montt, Llanquihue province in the Los Lagos area. It covers the mountainous region south of Lake Chapo, between the Seno and Relonkawi estuaries from the southeast and the Pacific Ocean from the west.
Alerse Andino National Park is more than 40 beautiful lagoons and alpine lakes, 20,000 hectares of rugged forests of ancient fifty meter tall larch trees (a coniferous tree, endemic to the subantarctic forests of South America, is in danger of extinction), braided by vines and overgrown with ferns. This park is a place where you can see the vegetation of the mountainous and rugged, almost steep slopes of the coastal ridge of the Cordillera de la Costa, which are 1200-1500 m above sea level.
Territorially, the park can be divided into two sectors for excursions: the Correntos area near Lake Chapo and the area near Chaikas. It is a lush wooded area, mountain lakes hidden in the jungle are especially impressive: the Chaikas River Valley, Chaikuenes Lagoon, Triangulo Lagoon, Fria and Sargaso Lakes and Pangal area. It is also worth trying or at least seeing jumping into the Chaikas River.
800-year-old larches grow near Lake Sargaso. And not far from Cold Lake, in the Correntoso sector, larches grow more than 3000 years old.
All sectors of the park have special hiking trails from which you can observe the life of the inhabitants of forests and lakes. There are also routes for tourists with good physical fitness. You can take exciting boat trips along the coast of the Chaikuenes lagoon and the Relonkavi estuary. And in the mirror waters of Lake Sargaso, you can swim. Go down the mountain rivers in kayaks or swim in the lagoons on sea kayaks.
It is preferable to visit Ahlerse Andino Park from November to March due to the best weather conditions. Average temperature: + 7-10 ° C in winter and + 20 ° C in summer.
