Description of the attraction
The Memorial House-Museum of Mother Teresa was built in 2008 in Skopje - the city where Agnes Gonce Boyajiu was born, whom the whole world knows as Mother Teresa. The site for the construction of this museum was predetermined by history itself. For a long time there was the Catholic Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which was attended by the girl Agnes. Here she was baptized, here she spent most of her free time, sang in the church choir, helped during charity dinners. The foundation stone of the future museum was laid in the presence of many religious and political leaders of Macedonia. The ceremony was also attended by ordinary citizens who came to honor the memory of the respected nun, awarded for her kindness by the Nobel Peace Prize. The construction of the museum cost 2 million euros.
A year later, the building was ready. Many distinguished guests gathered at its opening, including those from the Vatican. The Prime Minister of Skopje delivered a solemn speech. The Mother Teresa Museum became instantly popular. In the first few weeks, it was visited by more than 10 thousand people. A monument to the famous nun, recognized as a saint, was erected in front of the museum.
The exposition of the Memorial House of Mother Teresa consists of letters, archival documents, photographs, as well as personal belongings of Agnes Gonce Boyagiu, among which one can note a handwritten book, rosary, clothes, etc. The room in which the future saint grew up was also recreated here. On the second floor of the building there is a working chapel, which is very much loved by the locals.
