Description of the attraction
The war memorial is located in one of the administrative districts of Yongsan-gu, Seoul, Yongsan-dong. The memorial was opened in 1994 and is located in the former army headquarters building.
The exposition of the memorial museum is dedicated to the military history of South Korea. There are 6 exhibition halls in the building, in addition, there are outdoor expositions. The entire collection includes more than 13,000 exhibits, including military equipment, military equipment, and symbols.
Each room has its own name. The first hall is the Hall of Memory. Upon entering this hall, visitors will see a sign with English text, which contains the names and surnames of soldiers and police officers who took part in the Korean wars and died. The second hall is the History of the War, among the exhibits there are Korean weapons, from the Paleolithic era to the modern period, as well as armor, helmets, swords. The exposition of the third hall will tell about the war between North and South Korea. In the fourth hall, guests will be shown a video of the battles, which will be accompanied by special effects - smoke, sound, the smell of gunpowder. The fifth hall will tell about the Armed Forces of the Republic of Korea, and in the last, sixth hall, a huge collection of modern weapons of South Korea is presented.
In the open air, around the memorial building, there are about 100 exhibits, including: various types of weapons, aircraft (AN-2, the American Bell AH-1 "Cobra" attack helicopter, the American Bell UH-1 "Iroquois" multipurpose helicopter, the American strategic bomber-bomber Boeing B-52 Stratofortress, American transport aircraft Curtiss-Wright C-46 Commandos, single-seat American long-range fighter North American R-51 Mustang, American North American T-28 Trojan trainer, American multi-purpose helicopter H-5 and others), ground weapons (automatic anti-aircraft gun Bofors L60, main battle tank of South Korea K1 (type 88), self-propelled artillery mount M36, tanks M46, M4647, M48, M4 Sherman, the world's first anti-aircraft missile system with a nuclear warhead MIM-14 "Nike Hercules") and others.
