In total, about 2.5 million rivers flow on the territory of our country. Many rivers in Russia are very small (the length of the channel does not exceed 100 km), but there are real giants among them.

Yenisei

The Yenisei is one of the largest rivers in the world, and its basin is considered one of the largest not only in Russia, but throughout the world.

The name of the Siberian river in the Evenki language sounds like "Ionesi" and is translated as "big water". During the development of Siberia, the Cossacks simply changed the beautiful word in a more convenient manner. So a new river with the sonorous name Yenisei appeared. The source of the river is Lake Kara-Balyk, located in the Upper Sayan Mountains.

The depths of the Yenisei allow sea-going vessels to climb almost as much as 1000 kilometers upstream. The maximum depth is 70 meters. At its mouth, the river is so wide (up to 75 km) that when traveling along the passage of the banks it is simply not visible.

Lena

Another big Siberian river. Like almost all the rivers of this huge region, Lena ends its journey in the Laptev Sea. The name of the river, which many associate with a female name, has nothing to do with that. This is just a simplified pronunciation of "Elu-Ene", since this is the name given to the river by the indigenous people. It translates as "Big River".

Volga

The Volga is the largest river located on the territory of the Russian Plain, as well as the longest river in Europe. The source of the Russian beauty is a stream, which gives life to a small swamp. This miniature fontanel attracts a huge number of people who go to it in the desire to see the birthplace of Mother Volga.

The Volga passes through several lakes as a stream and a shallow river. It becomes wider and more full-flowing after the confluence of the Selizharovka River. And the confluence of the Oka near Nizhny Novgorod makes it truly full-flowing.
