Description of the attraction

The Burswood entertainment complex is located on the banks of the Swan River in the suburbs of Perth. The complex includes a casino open 24 hours a day, 7 restaurants, 8 bars, a nightclub, a 5-star luxury hotel "InterContinental" and a 4-star hotel "Holiday Inn", a conference hall and a theater.

The complex began in 1984, when a local businessman, Dallas Dempster, planned to build a casino on Berswood Island on the Swan River, 3 km east of Perth. Previously, this site was a landfill for solid household waste, which created certain difficulties in the development of the project of the complex due to the risk of a possible collapse of the soil and the washout of industrial water into the nearby river.

The building permit was obtained in March 1985 and the work was in full swing. By the end of the year - December 30 - the casino was opened, which became the largest in Australia and the third largest in the world. In the first two months, the casino's profit reached up to 1 million Australian dollars per day! This far exceeded all expected earnings. By January 1987, the number of visitors to the complex reached three million.

In August 1987, the Burswood Dome sports stadium, the largest in the southern hemisphere, opened on an area of 8,800 m2. can accommodate almost 14 thousand people. A couple of months later, the Burswood Island Hotel and a conference hall opened their doors. In 2003, the hotel passed into the ownership of the international group "InterContinental Hotels Group" and was renamed accordingly. At the same time, the second hotel with 291 rooms, the Holiday Inn, was built.

Today, there is a small park around the entertainment complex, where you can admire wild flowers, various sculptures and play golf.
