Description of the attraction

About 4 nautical miles southeast of the Greek island of Lefkada lies a small picturesque island of Meganisi. The population of Meganisi is slightly more than 1,000 people, and its area is about 20 square kilometers. There are only three settlements on the island - Katomeri, Vafi and Spartochori.

Meganisi Island - stunning landscapes, magnificent beaches and an unusually relaxing atmosphere. This is a great place for those who wish to relax away from excessive crowds, in silence and complete harmony with nature.

The administrative center of the island of Katomeri is a typical Greek village with traditional architecture and an abundance of greenery. You will not find the usual tourist benefits here, but you can fully enjoy the hospitality of the locals. True, there are a couple of nice taverns and one small hotel in Catomeri.

Wafi is the island's main port and popular tourist destination. It is located on the north coast of the island in a well-protected natural harbor. Wafi is a picturesque town with labyrinths of cobbled streets, snow-white stone houses, churches and a picturesque embankment with numerous snow-white yachts and boats. In local taverns and restaurants, you can have a good rest and enjoy excellent Greek cuisine.

Popular with tourists and Spartochori. It sits atop a pine-covered hill overlooking Spilio Bay, the island's second port. Like Vathi and Katomeri, Spartochori is a traditional Greek settlement with narrow streets lined with greenery and flowers with stone houses. About 1 km from the port of Spilio is the beach of the same name, one of the best beaches on the island.

In addition to Spilio, among the huge number of excellent beaches in Meganisi, it is worth highlighting such beaches as Agios Ioannis, Pasumaki, Ambelakia, Faros, Limonari, Elia, Lutrolimni, Faros, Aferinos and Bereta.

The most famous attraction on Meganisi is the huge Papanikolis sea cave, where a Greek submarine hid during World War II. It is the second largest of its kind in Greece.

Getting to Meganisi island is quite easy, as there is a regular ferry service to Lefkada island (Nydri port - Spartochori - Vafi). It is worth considering that the choice of accommodation on the island is limited, so you need to take care of booking in advance.
