Description of the attraction
The Greek island of Zakynthos has long been renowned for its stunning natural landscapes and stunning landscapes. The visiting card of the island and one of its main attractions is the picturesque Navagio Bay, also known as the Smugglers' Bay.
Navagio Bay is located on the northwestern coast of the island, about 4 km from the village of Volmes. It is a small, completely isolated natural cove surrounded by sheer almost white rocks (the height of the rocks in some places reaches 100 m). The snow-white sand with small pebbles, combined with the crystal-clear azure waters of the Ionian Sea and the incredible beauty of inaccessible rocks, create a truly fantastic landscape that will impress even the most sophisticated traveler.
You can get to Navagio Bay only by sea. You can enjoy the breathtaking panoramic bird's-eye view and take stunning photos that will undoubtedly take a worthy place in your photo album from a special observation deck located on the rocks.
Once the bay was called "Agios Georgios". But in the 1980s, the cargo ship Panayiotis ran aground here during a violent storm, on which smugglers were transporting illegal goods. Fleeing from the persecution of the Greek authorities, the crew fled, and the ship washed ashore. The corroded wreck of the ship, because of which the bay, in fact, got its name, as if a huge whale thrown ashore rises in the middle of the sand, creating a sharp contrast with the surrounding nature.
Navagio Bay is considered to be one of the most beautiful places in Greece and annually attracts thousands of tourists from all over the world.
