Description of the attraction
Donsol is a city in the Sorsogon province in the south of Luzon, located just an hour's drive from Legazpi Airport. This city is known as the "world capital of whale sharks" because it is along its shores from November to June that the migration routes of these formidable marine life pass.
Whale sharks are protected by the state, scuba diving is prohibited here during the migration season, but snorkeling fans can get such a permit at the Whale Shark Center. Despite the fact that the visibility off the coast of Donsol is small, you can still watch the sharks swimming by - thousands of underwater lovers come to get an unforgettable experience from meeting sea predators. However, it must be remembered that it can be dangerous to approach sharks at a distance of less than three meters.
Not far from Donsol is the island of Tikao, which also attracts numerous tourists, primarily divers. On Takdogan Reef from February to July, you can see manta rays, as well as colonies of corals and tropical fish. Particularly popular is Captain Nemo's 69-meter underwater Tunnel! It is so large that one can easily imagine that it was here that the famous ship "Nautilus" was hiding. Another tunnel - Simon's Lair - ends in a cave filled with air.
