Description of the attraction
The State Museum of A. S. Pushkin is located in the center of Moscow, in the city estate of the Khrushchevs-Seleznevs on Prechistenka. In 1997, the manor building was reconstructed and restored. The museum complex has become a modern, multifunctional, cultural center.
The city estate of the Khrushchevs-Seleznevs is one of the most remarkable ensembles in the capital. The construction of the estate went on from 1814 to 1817. This is the time of the revival of Moscow after the fires of 1812. In 1814, already retired, A. P. Khrushchev bought the remains of a ruined estate that belonged to the princes Baryatinsky. The project of the estate was created and the construction was carried out by the architect D. I. Zhilyardi and A. G. Grigoriev. A beautiful mansion was erected on the site of the ruins and ashes. It was decorated with white columns and stucco facades. The mansion had spacious terraces. Near the house there is a small but very beautiful garden with a garden pavilion and many service and outbuildings.
The State A. S. Pushkin Museum was founded in 1957. It was the first museum dedicated to the life and literary and poetic work of the great Russian poet. The founder of the museum's exposition was Alexander Zinovievich Kerin. The exposition "Pushkin and His Era" contains over 165 thousand museum items. Among the exhibits are works of fine art. These are the canvases of Tropinin, Bryullov, Kiprensky, Bakst, Korovin, Petrov-Vodkin and other artists of the 19th and 20th centuries. Every year the museum implements new exhibition projects, literary readings, scientific conferences, seminars and concerts are held. The museum staff pay special attention to working with children and school audiences. The museum organizes educational programs: Journey to Lukomorye, Music of fairy tales, School of a young nobleman, Miracles in a sieve, and others. New Year's holidays for children are also held here.
The complex of the State Museum of A. S. Pushkin also includes branches: Museum-apartment of A. S. Pushkin on Arbat, Memorial apartment of Andrei Bely, House-Museum of V. L. Pushkin, House-Museum of I. S. Turgenev. The museum complex also includes exhibition halls located on the Arbat, where exhibitions of contemporary artists are held.
