Description of the attraction
The Central Botanical Garden of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus was founded in 1932. On November 25, 1999, the botanical garden was awarded the status of a scientific object constituting a national treasure.
The Minsk Botanical Garden is rightfully considered the largest in the world. Its area is 153 hectares (for comparison: the Royal British Botanic Garden covers an area of 121 hectares). The collections of the Minsk Botanical Garden include more than 10 thousand names of species and varieties of plants. The Botanical Garden is, first of all, a scientific institution, where a lot of scientific work is being carried out to study and preserve plants. Collections of ornamental plants of the Belarusian selection were awarded the status of the National Heritage of the Republic of Belarus.
The Minsk Botanical Garden will be of interest to both botanists and the general public. In a well-planned area, you can not only admire the rarest plants (most of the collections are freely accessible), but also relax with the whole family. There are recreation areas, gazebos, benches, toilets and summer cafes.
For lovers of exotic plants, it will be interesting to visit the greenhouse, where the most beautiful plants from all over the world are collected, including a very solid collection of arrowroot, bromeliads, cacti, orchids. The greenhouse has a reservoir where aquatic plants and fish are raised.
Since October 21, 2012, the lemonarium has been opened - a unique collection of citrus plants. Here you can see lemons, oranges, tangerines, grapefruits and rare citrus fruits growing and ripening. An exotic sort of lemon "Buddha's Hand" grows here.
Minsk Botanical Garden is open to the public all year round. Excursions are organized here, including for children, schoolchildren and students. There is a well-developed educational program.
