Description of the attraction
The Church of Christ Pantokrator is an Orthodox church located in the town of Nessebar. The building is located on the territory of an architectural and historical reserve, which is included in the UNESCO list of cultural and historical heritage, as well as in the List of one hundred national tourist sites in Bulgaria.
The church, which is one of the main attractions of Nessebar, was built in the XIII-XIV centuries. It is one of the most famous and best preserved medieval temples in the city. To this day, the building has not been completely preserved (part of the wall and the dome of one of the towers are missing), but today it amazes with its beauty and special architectural style.
The building has a rectangular shape and reaches a length and width of about 16 and 7 meters, respectively. Two exits are located on the west and south side. On the east side there are three small, richly profiled apses. A square bell tower rises above the narthex. There is an octagonal tower with arched windows on the roof of the building. The main external decoration of the temple is textured masonry of bricks of different sizes and colors. The abundance of double and triple arched elements, profiling and other interesting architectural solutions make the Church of Christ Pantokrator a real piece of architectural art.
