Description of the attraction

The Church of the Resurrection in Kadashi was built in the Kadashevskaya settlement, famous for making barrels, tubs and other wooden utensils, at the expense of the merchants of this settlement - the Dobryninsky family. Construction lasted from 1687 to 1695.

The church is one of the most interesting township temples in Moscow. The author of the building, presumably, is the architect and master of bells Turchaninov. The architecture of the temple combines features of the township construction with elements of the "Naryshkin" baroque. The monumental, strongly elongated quadruple ends not with traditional kokoshniks, but with a double attic made of openwork "ridges" - festoons. This gives the impression of layering. In terms of the richness and perfection of white stone carving, the church has no equal in Moscow. The temple ends with five chapters on faceted drums.

Initially, the temple did not have a bell tower, but was built up with three symmetrical staircases. Later, a bell tower was built (1695). Its silhouette resembles the Beklemishevskaya tower of the Moscow Kremlin, located on the opposite bank of the Moskva River on the Kremlin embankment.

Tsarist icon painters were invited to paint the walls and paint icons. The six-tier carved iconostasis stood out for its special beauty, which has been reviewed as one of the best works of carved art of the 17th century. Now the icons of the Resurrection Church are scattered and kept in the storerooms of the Tretyakov Gallery, the Historical Museum, etc.

Wall painting of the 17th century. damaged in a fire in 1812 and was replaced by a new painting.
