Description of the attraction

Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ, also called the Kiev Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ, is the main temple of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. The temple is located on Nikolsko-Slobodskaya street, not far from the Levoberezhnaya station. Together with the administration building, the Cathedral forms the Patriarchal Center of the UGCC. The total area occupied by the Church of the Resurrection of Christ is about 1.72 hectares.

The foundation stone of the future cathedral was carried out in September 2002, and already at the end of October the cornerstone of the temple was consecrated, and the then rector of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church Lubomyr Guzar took part in the event. The basement floor of the temple was completed before June 2003, and in parallel they began to erect an administrative building. By the end of 2004, the walls of the temple were generally erected (at first they were brought to the mark of 13.2 meters), and later they were brought to the central level of the vault of the temple (often this level is called the pylon level). In the same 2004, all five crosses of the cathedral were consecrated and installed. All the bishops of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church from all over the world received the ceremony of consecration of the crosses of the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ. At the same time, the main cross was raised and installed on the central dome of the temple. After the installation of the metal vault of the temple, which lasted until the summer of 2006 (it turned out to be so large that it had to be raised in parts and then assembled), the temple was finally almost ready and, in January 2006, the first service took place in it. The service was timed to coincide with the feast of the Epiphany and was held in the basement of the church.

The official opening of the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ took place in March 2011. It was during the opening ceremony that the enthronement ceremony of the new abbot of the UGCC, Archbishop Svyatoslav Shevchuk, was held.
