Description of the attraction
The Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in the city of Novosibirsk is a functioning Orthodox church located on Zoologicheskaya Street.
In December 1997, on the feast of St. Nicholas, Archbishop of Lycia, the rite of consecration of the throne was held in the church in the name of the Annunciation of the Most Holy Theotokos. The first meeting of the community took place in April 1998 on the day of the celebration of the Lord's Entry into Jerusalem. Since the parishioners did not have an organized church, the services were initially held in different places: near the Dawn children's club, in the private sector next to the abandoned Veterans' House, at school # 102, and so on. And only at the end of July the parishioners paid attention to the house located on the territory of the Altai-Sayan geodetic seismological expedition along Zoologicheskaya street. Originally, this house stood on the other side of the river and belonged to a large family of temple builders.
The parishioners, on their own, made initial repairs in the building as soon as possible: they repaired the roof, walls and made the floor. In September 1998 the church was consecrated. In December 1999, a solemn celebration of the patronal feast took place - on this day, the church was presented with a large icon of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. Now this icon can be seen on the salt. Local residents became parishioners of the church, but many people came here from other parts of the city.
In 1998, a children's and adult St. Elias Sunday school was opened in the church. In 2005, the local artist B. S. Veremchuk carved and presented the temple with a huge wooden crucifix.
In a fairly short time, a two-story extension to the main building and a refectory were erected in the temple. On the ground floor there was a classroom, and on the second there was another classroom and a library. In October 2000, a high bell tower was installed over the extension. In 2002, work began on the reconstruction of the building of the temple, and at the same time the construction of the main dome.
In January 2003, on the eve of the feast of the Baptism of the Lord, the consecration and installation of crosses took place on all five domes of the church. In September 2003, a cupola was installed over the royal chapel and a cross was raised. As a result, the church building acquired the appearance of a traditional Russian temple. In 2003, eight bells shone on the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker.
