Description of the attraction

During 2007-2009, restoration work was carried out in the Vologda region of a unique cultural and historical monument of federal significance - the famous Bryanchaninov estate, located in the Gryazovets district in the village of Pokrovskoye.

Pokrovskoe village is located 28 km from the city of Vologda. The history of Pokrovsky is closely intertwined with the Brianchaninov family; the clan began its origin from the boyar Mikhail Brenko, who died in the Battle of Kulikovo. The first mentions of the lands of the Brianchaninovs date back to the 17th century. There is an opinion that the local self-taught Alexander Sapozhnikov became the architect of the famous estate. But it is worth noting that the proportions of the house he designed are not as precise and elegant as they are rational; for this reason, a number of modern researchers have put forward the theory that the house was designed by a metropolitan master. But nevertheless, scientists noted the unprecedented similarity of the manor house with the works of the famous master Nikolai Lvov.

The stone house is built in the style of traditional classicism and is united by galleries and two outbuildings. From the outside, you might think that the house is very large, but it only has two floors and an attic. Two large rooms were located in the attic: one overlooked the village, occupied the master's bedroom and study, and the second - the boudoir and the master's bedroom. Children's rooms were located on the second floor. As you know, Alexander Semenovich and his wife Sofia Afanasyevna had nine children. The first floor was occupied by a living room, a hall, guest rooms, an office. The Bryanchaninov family was very fond of organizing literary, family and theatrical evenings.

The spiritual, cultural and educational center includes not only the house, but also the Intercession Church and the estate park. The Church of the Intercession was laid out in 1810 from bricks in the style of early classicism. The inner path is twenty steps, which separates the church porch from the house. Judging by old photographs, we can say that the decoration of the interior of the temple is consistent with the architectural details of the estate, which testifies to the uniform style of the estate ensemble, as well as to the fact that the church was an integral part of the estate. It is known that the Bryanchaninovs were deeply religious people, therefore they attended church services.

In the 1990s, the Novgorod church community of Alexander Nevsky took over the custody of the Intercession Church. The priests of this community hold services in the Intercession Church on the day of blessed memory of the famous Saint Ignatius, namely May 13. An unprecedented number of believers from all over Vologda, Gryazovets and many surrounding villages gather every year for the feast of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos.

On the left side of the church is the family necropolis. In 2006, the grave of Vladimir Nikolayevich Bryanchaninov appeared in the family fence. The last owner of the estate died in France in 1963, whose ashes were brought home by his granddaughter Tatyana Watson, who flies in from Australia every year.

The manor park in the village of Pokrovskoye is considered one of the few examples of true landscape art of the 18-19 centuries. The cozy layout of the garden is created by eight linden paths that form a star in a geometric line. The park descends with several terraces to the southern part of the tapering hill. The main alley starts right from the southern facade of the manor house and stretches along the entire park, smoothly turning into a small path leading to the pond. The park is dominated by hardwood trees and there is a cool fountain nearby. At the very end of the garden there are greenhouses for fruits, flowers and vegetables.

At the moment, there are expositions in the Bryanchaninov estate. Documents, photographs, archival files, historical documents are available for display. An important place is also taken by the reflection of the successive stages of restoration of the entire estate complex.
