Description of the attraction

The Museum of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Novosibirsk is located in a picturesque forested area of the Botanical Garden in Akademgorodok along Zolotodolinskaya Street. The opening of the museum took place in 1991. The initiator of the creation of the museum was the founder of the Siberian Branch of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, Academician M. A. Lavrentiev.

The museum of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences presents exhibits telling about the life and work of M. Lavrentyev, as well as the founding of the Academgorodok and the local branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. In addition, it contains interesting information about outstanding Siberian scientists, various scientific discoveries and scientific communities of Siberia.

The exposition, dedicated to the first chairman of the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences, Academician M. Lavrentyev, is housed in three spacious halls. The first hall is dedicated to the so-called "pre-Soanian" period in the academician's biography: his formation as a scientist and public figure. The second hall reflects the creation of the Siberian branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences and the scientific center of Novosibirsk: the construction and opening of institutes, international relations, the formation of new scientific centers beyond the Urals, training of personnel for science. In the third hall of the museum, materials are presented that tell visitors about the merits of Academician M. Lavrentyev not only at home, but also abroad.

The main social function of the Museum is to document the development of Russian science and technology.

The museum collection consists of more than 1 thousand storage units, which includes means of instrumental counting, nodes of the first generations of Soviet electronic computers, samples of scientific instruments, original developments of the SB RAS, a unique collection of household and professional photographic equipment, radio equipment, the legendary GAZ-69 car, belonging to the academician M. A. Lavrentiev.

The Novosibirsk Museum of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences regularly hosts various thematic exhibitions, excursions and meetings.
