Description of the attraction

Bellamar Cave can be called one of the main wonders of Cuba, the pearl of its unique nature. It is located near the town of Matanzas. Bellamar was discovered in 1850, when local shepherds lost a sheep, and in search of the missing animal came across the entrance to the underground. However, at that time people were superstitious and believed that evil spirits lived in the caves. Therefore, for 100 years there has not been a human foot. And only in the second half of the twentieth century, researchers began to study Bellamar. To open it in all its glory, more than one ton of water and limestone was chosen outside. And they did not regret the effort spent, the cave with a length of 2.5 km turned out to be unusually beautiful and full of surprises. Its main decoration is stalagmite and stalactite crystalline formations, some of which are 40,000 years old. Tourists are offered a three hundred meters long route, but this is enough to get a lot of impressions. Crystals on the walls look like stars, different rocks shimmer with all the colors of the rainbow, karst lakes and streams wash bizarre stones. The so-called "Columbus cloak" deserves special attention. This is a completely unusual crystalline formation 12 meters high, resembling the folds of a cloak. The so-called "Gothic Hall" amazes with its grandeur - a vast grotto with amazing stone formations, which is 80 meters long and 25 meters wide.
