The Velikie Luki land keeps many memorable dates and events; there are many historical sites in this region. Many prominent personalities and witnesses of significant events come from here. In February, namely on the 23rd of 1988, in the village of Borki, located in the Velikie Luki region, the Literary and Art Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War was opened.

The museum is located in a picturesque place in the middle of a pine forest. There is a lake nearby, after visiting the museum you can walk along its shore. The museum is located in a new building, well equipped and has very interesting funds, some of which are unique in their own way. The museum halls will acquaint visitors with those people who, during the war years, supported our defenders to achieve victory in words and were in the same ranks with them, and at the end of the war, with a drawing of the war years and in a word, they told the truth about the difficult time of 1941-45. in the annals of the history of our country.

The organizer and creator of the museum was Ivan Afanasyevich Vasiliev, who lived in Borki from 1981 to 1994. A participant in the Great Patriotic War, laureate of the State and Lenin Prizes, public figure, writer-publicist, over the years of his journalistic work he collected a large amount of material, which served as the basis for the museum. The museum is based on a collection of photographs, autographs, books, newspapers and other documents telling about the writers - front-line soldiers. Like-minded people I. A. Vasilyeva - war veterans, front-line artists A. A. Bolshakov, V. M. Zvontsov, as well as V. Ya. Kurbatov (literary critic) donated more than a hundred works of fine art to the museum, thus laying the foundation for a rural picture gallery.

The museum has an exposition that tells about the writers-front-line soldiers who fought on the Kalinin, North-Western, Western, Leningrad and Volkhov fronts. There is also an exposition entitled "Painted in War by an Artist". Here you can visit I. A. Vasiliev, get acquainted with the peasant life of the 19th - 20th centuries, to which a whole room is dedicated, visit the exhibition hall and look into the literary and musical living room. In the literary living room, meetings with artists, writers, veterans, performers of war songs are held, and literary evenings are held. The museum houses a military book library.

Every year, since 1985, in May in the village of Borki, the Frontline Poetry Festival has been held. Writers and poets from many parts of our country come to the holiday. The initiator of the holiday was I. A. Vasiliev. A memorial plaque to I. A. Vasiliev. The museum was named after the organizer - I. A. Vasilyeva.

On the initiative of I. A. Vasiliev in June 1991, the House of Environmental Education was opened in Borki. The purpose of the discovery was the environmental education of all segments of the population. At the same time, the first environmental conference was held in Borki. The House of Ecology is equipped with tables, pictures, collectible materials, and graphs of ecological orientation. Four halls are equipped. The expositions are divided by thematic focus: "Biosphere", "Fatherland", "Compound", "Do no harm". There is a local lore circle, an optional "The World of the Russian Village" is functioning.
