Description of the attraction

The Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War is the largest memorial complex in Belarus dedicated to the liberation war of the Belarusian people against the fascist invaders. The uniqueness of the museum's exposition lies in the fact that materials for the museum began to be collected directly during the war. The decision to start collecting materials was made on June 2, 1942 by the Central Committee of the Communist Party (Bolsheviks) of Belarus. For this, a special commission was created.

The doors of the museum were thrown open in October 1944. The exposition of the museum was located in the House of Trade Unions on Svoboda Street - one of the few buildings in Minsk that survived the war. The museum has become a symbol of the new post-war period for Minsk residents, a symbol of hope. The museum moved to a purpose-built building on the Central Square in 1966. A unique exhibition of military equipment was created next to the museum building.

Today we can see an unbiased cut of history and unique documents, objects of that terrible time in the life of the country. We can ourselves appreciate the immortal feat of the entire people who rose up to fight the fascist troops. The museum fully conveys the disturbing atmosphere of wartime. You can see photographs, paintings by professional artists and drawings of front-line soldiers, uniforms, banners, weapons, military equipment, items collected directly during the war. A significant part of the exposition is dedicated to the Belarusian partisan movement. Here you can see portraits of partisans, weapons, household items, illustrated partisan magazines.

At present, the exhibition is replenished with exhibits that have not been shown earlier for ideological reasons: uniforms and personal belongings of the German military, items telling about the military life of ordinary people, evidence of repression by partisans and other previously silent facts.

The role of the Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War is extremely important in our time for the patriotic education of young people, so that the younger generation remembers the feat of their grandfathers.
