Description of the attraction
At the northern border of the city, at the top of the Capodimonte hill, among the greenery of the park of the same name, stands the majestic building of the former royal residence. It was built in the 1730s by G. Medrano by order of Carl Bourbon, who was going to house here an extensive collection of antique and Renaissance art, inherited from his mother, Elisabeth Farnese. However, almost a century passed before the palace was completed.
Now it houses the Museum and the National Gallery of Capodimonte. You can see the best paintings by artists of southern Italy, including Bellini, Botticelli, Caravaggio, Titian, Masaccio, Correggio, as well as an excellent collection of porcelain.
