Russian tourists have long trod a path to the ancient values of the Lebanese land. It starts at the Lebanese airport in Beirut, where the glittering birds of Aeroflot regularly land, and the travel time from Moscow will not take more than 4 hours. With connections in the capital of the country that gave the world the alphabet, you can find yourself by choosing a flight with Turkish Airlines with the opportunity to see Istanbul or Egypt Air from above through Cairo. Tickets for Qatar Airways and Emirates are more expensive, but passengers will experience incredible comfort on board their liners, even in economy class.

Lebanon International Airport

Lebanon's only international airport is located 9 km south of Beirut. The city where the airport is located is the capital, and the runway runs along the Mediterranean coast.

Historical details

Lebanon's airport in Beirut is named after Rafik Hariri, who was prime minister for 12 years and died in a terrorist attack. The country's first air harbor opened in 1954 and quickly became a leading transport hub in the Middle East. The aircraft are registered here not only for the national carrier Middle East Airlines, but also for many airlines from other countries.

The civil war put the airport out of action for many years, and after its end there was a need for repair and modernization. In 2005, a new terminal and a reconstructed runway were inaugurated.

Infrastructure and directions

The Beirut airport terminal consists of the East and West wings and has 23 boarding gates. At the service of passengers in the terminal building:

  • Duty free shops and souvenir shops.
  • Cafes and restaurants with national cuisine.
  • Post office and currency exchange offices.
  • Car rental offices and tourist information center.

On the lower level of the terminal there are baggage claim belts, several Duty Dfee stores in the arrivals area and a cafe.

Registration and passport control are on the second level, while prayer rooms and business class lounges are on the third.

Free Wi-Fi is available on the territory of Lebanon airport for 30 minutes, the use of which will have to be paid for a longer period.

The list of airlines on the wings of which you can get to Beirut is very extensive:

  • Air France, Alitalia, KLM Lufthansa, Condor Flugdienst, LOT Polish Airline and British Airways connect the Lebanese capital with European countries.
  • Aeroflot, Belavia and UM Airlines fly from Russia, Belarus and Ukraine.
  • Pegasus Airlines and Turkish Airlines help to reach Turkish Istanbul.
  • Emirates, Qatar Airlines, Etihad and FlyDudai fly to the UAE and Qatar.

From Beirut you can fly to Tunisia and Bucharest, Addis Ababa and Algeria, Casablanca and Cairo.

Direct transfer from the airport is only possible by taxi, which is not very cheap in Beirut. The second option is a taxi ride to the nearest N1 bus stop, located one kilometer from the passenger terminal.
