Description of the attraction

The Old Believers' Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is located on Baidukova Street. This large beautiful brick five-domed church, made in the Russian architectural style with a hipped bell tower, was erected in 1990-1999. funds raised with the help of city enterprises, communities of old believers in Siberia, and donations from foreign organizations.

The Old Believer community in Novo-Nikolaevsk (today - Novosibirsk) was registered as early as 1908. XX century, during church persecutions, it was liquidated and restored only after the war in 1946. At that time, services were held in different buildings adapted for these needs.

By the end of the 80s. a new stage began in the life of the Novosibirsk Old Believer community. The number of Old Believers increased significantly, and the old church building no longer met the needs of the community. Then it was decided to build a new stone church. In September 1990, the Metropolitan of Moscow and All Russia Alimpiy consecrated the site in the area of Bestuzhev Street, allotted for the construction of a new stone church.

Since the parish was sorely lacking money for the construction of the church, the construction was delayed. However, thanks to the help of the city and regional administration, the construction of the church was completed. The solemn consecration of the temple took place in September 1999. And now the Cathedral is striking in its beauty.

The author of the iconostasis project was the Kazan Old Believer A. Chetvergov. Not quite ordinary black domes stand out against the background of the temple.
