Description of the attraction
Black Rock is a natural landmark located in the Borovets resort (it is located in a picturesque place on the slope of the Rila Mountains, at an altitude of 1300 meters above sea level).
A tourist route leads to the Black Rock from the resort town. The trail passes through centuries-old pine forests, green meadows, flower meadows and small streams. The path is considered easy enough to pass, in addition, for the convenience of tourists, wooden stairs and bridges with railings have been built in some places. A one-way walk will take about 90 minutes. You can go to the Black Rock both independently and with a group, accompanied by a tourist guide. The width of the trail also makes it possible to overcome this path on horseback, on a horse, or in a small carriage. On the way, you can make a short break and have a picnic in nature.
The Black Rock is located slightly above the source of the Maritsa River. It got its name because of the unusual, almost black color of the rocks. Scientists associate this feature with the location of the mountain and atmospheric influence. In 1974, this place was officially declared a natural landmark.
The hiking trail leads to the top of the Black Rock. On a small patch near the cliff there is an observation deck, fenced with a railing for safety reasons. Here you can enjoy a beautiful view of the slopes of the Rila Mountains, the Maritsa River and its tributaries.
Black Rock has a dark glory. There is information that before and after September 9, 1944, dozens of residents of neighboring villages unwanted by the government were killed here. In memory of the innocent victims of the terror, a metal cross was erected next to the observation deck.
