Description of the attraction
Park "Black Lake" is located in the central part of Kazan. Close to the couple are located: Kremlevskaya st., St. Lobachevsky, pl. Liberty and the campus.
The history of the park began in the 18th century. The once clean, fishy lake emerged from the old riverbed of the Kazanka River. Even then, the lake became a resting place for the townspeople. In the 19th century, the shores of the lake began to be improved. The shores of the wild lake were overlaid with sod, trees were planted around, and the territory adjacent to the lake was fenced with a cast-iron fence.
At the beginning of the 20th century, the lake was so heavily swampy and polluted that the city authorities decided to fill it up. And that was done. The city park "Black Lake" appeared on the site of the lake. The garden was equipped with: Ozhegov's restaurant, a tavern, a billiard room, a shooting gallery, a bowling alley, Madame Vyatkina's photo salons. On summer evenings and on weekends, a military band played in the park. In winter, a skating rink was opened in the park. The park has become a favorite meeting place and meeting place for the townspeople. In 1894, fountains appeared in the park.
In Soviet times, the park housed sports sections. So, in 1925, a bandy section appeared. It was here that the history of the Kazan hockey club "Dynamo" began.
In 1930, the Arch of Lovers, or the Arch of Sighs, was erected at the entrance to the park, an elliptical arch. It is believed that the arch has special acoustic properties: if two people stand on different sides of the arch and say something or whisper into the niche of the vault, they will hear each other due to the acoustic features of the arch. The name of the author of this original project has not survived.
In the thirties on the street. Chernoozerskaya (now Dzerzhinsky Street) was the headquarters of the NKVD. "Black Lake" has become associated with Kazan not only with the park located here. It began to evoke the same associations as the word "Lubyanka" among Muscovites. In our time, the institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for Tatarstan are located here.
In 2007, a tornado swept over the park knocked down more than half of the trees. This caused great damage to the park. In place of the fallen trees in the park, flower beds are laid out.
Park "Black Lake" is a favorite resting place for the townspeople. Due to its proximity to the university, there are always a lot of young people in it. The park annually hosts a festival of farewell to winter - "Maslenitsa". The City Day and Sabantuy are celebrated here.
The park has a cafe "Black Lake", swings, slides and many benches. The pond hosts competitions for ship modelers in summer, and in winter the skating rink is flooded and a skate rental shop opens.
