Description of the attraction
The Church of the Intercession in the resort town of Zheleznovodsk is the parish church of the Mineralovodsk Deanery of the Circassian and Pyatigorsk Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate.
The original large stone Church of the Intercession was erected in the center of the city near the Ostrovsky baths in 1917. 20 Art. crosses and bells were removed from the church, and the building itself was used as a cinema. In 1936 the building of the temple was completely destroyed. At the beginning of 21 st. in its place was a public garden with a monument to those who died for the establishment of Soviet power in Zheleznovodsk.
In 1988, when the Olginsky parish of Zheleznovodsk began to build a new church, a small baptismal Church of the Intercession was built, in which services were held during the construction of the new church. After two clergymen from the Olginsky parish withdrew from obedience to the Stavropol ruler in 1992, the Orthodox flock of Zheleznovodsk was left without a church. Then, in 1993, the Intercession Orthodox parish was founded. In the spring of 1996, according to the decree of the city administration, the building of the former architectural monument of 1912, erected by the architect A. I. Kuznetsov, was given to the temple. Previously, this place housed a "water society", who came here for treatment, and then - New mineral baths. The transferred building of the Russian Orthodox Church was in complete desolation for more than a decade. The first divine service in the church took place in 1996 on Easter.
Work began on the reconstruction and decoration of the building, but due to a lack of funds, construction work proceeded very slowly. In 2002, a dome was installed on the temple. In October 2006, a chapel in the name of the great martyr and healer Panteleimon with the Slavyanovskaya mineral water spring was consecrated in the building. The main temple is located on the second floor. The structure is crowned with two gilded domes with crosses. Since 2008, two church shops, a library, a carpentry workshop, a dining room, a baptismal church and a prosphora have been operating at the church.
