Description of the attraction
Planitero is a picturesque mountain village on the Peloponnese peninsula. The settlement is located in the southwestern part of the Helmos (or Aroania) mountain range at an altitude of 700 m above sea level near the headwaters of the Aroanios River, about 25 km southeast of the town of Kalavryta.
Planitero is a traditional Greek settlement with pretty stone houses and narrow winding streets literally immersed in greenery, cozy taverns and cafes and an unforgettable atmosphere of cordiality and hospitality of the locals. The main attractions of Planitero are magnificent natural landscapes, breathtaking panoramic views, fantastic landscapes and, of course, clean healthy air, the main source of which is the incredibly beautiful dense plane tree forest, which shelters the mountain slopes just below the settlement itself. These places are also known for the abundance of natural springs and waterfalls.
Planitero is an ideal place for a quiet relaxing holiday away from the hustle and bustle of civilization and fans of long walks. Planitero gives a lot of opportunities for mountaineers as well, since it is here that a number of interesting routes pass, including the E4 trail. After enjoying a stroll through the picturesque surroundings and familiarizing yourself with sights such as the old water mill and the ruins of ancient fortresses, you should definitely look into one of the local taverns, which serve the excellent trout for which Planitero is so famous.
