Description of the attraction

The Tate Liverpool is an art gallery and museum in Liverpool, part of the Tate gallery system, which also includes the Tate and Tate Modern in London and the Tate St. Ives in Cornwall. Until 2003, the Tate Liverpool Gallery was the largest contemporary art museum in the UK outside London. It displays works of art created in the British Isles from 1500 to the present, as well as a collection of contemporary foreign art. The funds of the museum now number 60,000 exhibits. It houses the world's largest collection of Turner paintings. It also hosts temporary exhibitions.

The gallery was opened in 1988 in the Albert Dock area, in one of the converted warehouse premises. The complex of port facilities of Liverpool is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, almost all buildings here are protected by the state as historical and architectural monuments.

Much attention in the work of the gallery is paid to the educational program, within the framework of which a wide variety of events are held, designed for both children and adults, both educational institutions and families.

A huge project, on which work has been going on for several years, is the creation of a virtual gallery, the creation of an electronic and posting on the museum's website of photographs of all exhibits in order to provide the widest audience with the opportunity to admire the works of art stored here.
