Description of the attraction

One of the largest and most famous galleries dedicated to contemporary art in Cyprus is the Gallery located in the city of Limassol. In it you can see the amazing works of such world famous Cypriot artists from different times as Adamantios Korais, Tilemachus Kantos, Christoforos Savva, Vasilis Vrionides, Nikos Nikolaides, Victor Ioannides, Takis Frangoudes and many others.

The idea of creating such a gallery appeared in 1984, then a room was even officially allocated for it - on January 30, consul L. Zinonos solemnly handed over to the municipality one of his buildings. This beautiful house was built in 1938 by the architect Ginsburg. The official opening took place with the participation of the then mayor of the city, Antonis Hadjipavlou, on June 26, 1988. And already in 1996, a new building was built specifically for the needs of the Gallery. All the works of contemporary artists, both famous masters and beginners, were transferred to it. All of their works are truly unique, and all are performed in completely different genres and styles, from the classics to the latest trends and trends in art.

In total, the Gallery's collection includes more than 600 works of various types and forms - painting, sculpture, ceramics, installations, etc. Basically, the Gallery presents the works of artists and sculptors who live in Limassol, or have worked there, even if not for a very long time. However, it also contains works of masters from other cities and even countries. In addition, the Gallery also hosts exhibitions of foreign artists.
